North Jersey Couple Makes the Perfect Move to Millville
March 6, 2006 - When former Bergen County residents Ned and Linda Forbes began to consider locations for a leisurely retirement, they turned their eyes to South Jersey, specifically to Cumberland County. NJ Monthly magazine had introduced the couple to the advantages of this area and they decided to check it out.
No small part of the appeal of Cumberland County for this couple, who had been used to a New York skyline view from their North Jersey condominium, was Millville itself and the sense of community that they experience here. And they did their homework to be sure the move would be right for them.
“We thought it would be good to visit the area and stay beforehand to make sure there would be a fit,” Linda says. The couple purchased a home in Vineland which they lived in part-time for three years and full-time for one year before making their final decision to build.
“We wanted a contemporary home with a first floor master suite,” Linda says.
“ There weren’t too many available, so we decided to build. We also wanted a nice neighborhood and loved Millville’s Woodland Shores when we first saw it. There are other contemporary homes here, so our plans fit right in.” The homesite they found was owned by Sherwood Forest Homes, who became the builder of their custom contemporary home.
The partnership between builder and buyer was an instant success. “The personal involvement of the builder really impressed us,” Linda notes. “The sales people, office staff and construction managers worked as a team and bent over backwards to make us happy. We loved working with everyone.”
There could probably be no better proponents for the Millville area than Ned and Linda. “Millville is great,” they enthuse. “It is a nice sized city with amenities and a location next to a beautiful bayshore. We love the arts emphasis. There is so much to do.” The Forbes’ are members of the sailing club at Union Lake.
“Affordability is also an important attraction here,” Linda says. “This is the best place to live in New Jersey. I’ve lived or worked in eight Northern and Central New Jersey counties and four other states, as well as England.”
Millville and their new Sherwood Forest-built home was clearly the right move for these former North Jersey homeowners.
