Sherwood Forest III: Soon to be Home to Newly Weds
March 9, 2006 - The month of May is circled on the calendar for Dr. Terry Heacox and his fiancé, Jillian Forcinito. It’s the month they will begin their new life together in their new Sherwood Forest home.
While researching homes and home builders in the Millville area, the couple realized that they could build a new home to their personal taste for about the same cost as buying an existing home. With several friends who are already happy owners of a Sherwood Forest home, they decided to investigate the builder’s newest community, Sherwood Forest III.
“We chose the Locksley model for its large rooms and open spaces,” the couple says. “It is all we were looking for in a home and a great place to start a family and entertain family and friends.”
They were well prepared when they visited Sherwood’s new Design Center to make their personal selections, with a color scheme already in mind. “Dorota Gluszak, Design Center Coordinator, was very helpful in ushering us through the selection process,” the pair says.
Additions to their home include a sunroom for enjoying those “not so perfect” days and a sitting room off the master bedroom for a comfortable getaway and an office. They also added hardwood flooring to formalize the dining room and give the kitchen a more contemporary feel.
Selections come easy in Sherwood’s comprehensive Design Center, which served its first home buyer in November, 2005. Buyers usually begin their selection process with an orientation meeting, during which Dorota assigns them “homework”, such as considering where they want cable and phone jacks, what color schemes work best with furniture they already have and what their budget is for selecting options and upgrades. They will return to make final selections in a second or sometimes third meeting. “I don’t like to rush them” Dorota says. “These are important decisions they will live with for some time.”
Typically today’s home buyers put the most money into the kitchen and the master bath, however, Dorota’s clients have been customizing their homes with special flooring and lighting fixtures as well. “They’re choosing lots of recessed lights,” she says. Color schemes and textures play to a more natural look, with medium to dark cabinetry preferred by many buyers.
What advice would Terry and Jillian would offer to others shopping for a home? “Don’t discount building a new home. You can build new for a cost similar to buying an older home and take advantages of design options to personalize your home from the start.”
And the best thing about their home buying experience? “Right now the excitement of watching the house progress day by day,” they say. Certainly one of the advantages of building your first new home!
