Engineered lumber is used for floor joists, sub-floor material, wall & roof sheathing, and headers. These products are made from what was previously lumber "waste". This drastically reduces the amount of trees, or raw material, that are used in the construction of your home.
Value-engineered material take-offs are used to reduce the waste we put into landfill areas.
Vinyl siding is used, which is recyclable and made with up to 80% post consumer and and industrial recycled content. It is manufactured with nearly zero waste. There is no maintenance required, meaning no additional caulk or paint required (which are VOC chemicals).
R-19 insulation (per plan) is used to reduce energy costs throughout the life of your home.
Energy Star compliant furnaces and hot water heaters are used which reduces emissions and energy costs to the homeowner.
Low windows that allow less heat to pass from the outside during summer months and are insulated to help keep heat in during the winter season. They are also made from recyclable vinyl material instead of wood, aiding against deforestation.
PEX plumbing system which is made from recyclable plastics instead of using energy consuming, corrosive copper. This system is designed to allow only the hot water that is needed to reach the fixture in use, which reduces energy costs over the life of the system.
Sherwood Forest Homes, LLC is proud to say that we use almost exclusively local suppliers and subcontractors. Doing so decreases toxins which are released into the atmosphere when traveling to our sites to deliver and install construction products.
Professionally engineered site plans are used to manage storm runoff with a Storm Water Protection Plan. Little or no water leaves the site. In most cases, a Sherwood Forest Homes development is able to hold its own storm water runoff as well as natural runoff to the development from off site. This means very little impact on surrounding natural environment and bodies of water.
A reforestation plan is used. We must clear trees to add beautiful homes and bring in friends to a community. However, we replant (per the engineered site plan) around basins and along streets to reimburse nature.
